“OBSERVANCE OF INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES”
International Day of Person with Disabilities will be observed on December 3rd, 2022 under the theme “Transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of innovation in fuelling an accessible and equitable world.”
Persons with disabilities include those who have long-term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments, which, in interaction with various barriers, may hinder their full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others.
As a sickle cell patient and advocate, I also classify as a disabled person. Whilst not locally recognized as a disability, Sickle Cell Disease is internationally recognized as a debilitating disease that can cause disability. For this reason, I want to encourage each and every Caribbean citizen to be more aware of disabilities occurring with the region; those we can see and those we can’t.
Disability is not inability!!!
We can all work together to create more transformative solutions for inclusive development in the region, thus creating a more accessible and equitable Caribbean!
